Nelson Marlborough

There are two main hospitals in the Nelson Marlborough region, Nelson Hospital in Nelson with 140 patient beds (8 of which are critical care beds), and Wairau Hospital in Blenheim with approximately 65 patient beds. Nelson Marlborough employs approximately 2,500 people to deliver healthcare to 145,000 people across the Nelson, Tasman and Marlborough regions.

Health New Zealand | Nelson and Wairau (Blenheim)

Nelson and Wairau (Blenheim) are the main hospitals. Our regional services support all parts of the community. We focus on building teams; practice environments that retain, grow, enable, and extend the workforce. 

The Nelson Marlborough region has two other hospitals as part of our organisation these are:

  • Alexander Hospital has two main services being Older Persons Mental Health – Community, and Older Persons Mental Health Admissions Unit and cares for people with conditions related to Dementia and mental health decline requiring a short stay for assessment and referring to aged residential care or a support service.

  • Murchison hospital which provides specialised staff to respond to accidents and emergencies via 111. Has a 6-bed aged care facility and offers a Health Centre for general practitioner clinics.

Nelson Marlborough Health provides health services for more than 158,600 people in the Nelson, Tasman and Marlborough regions.
